Inside A Digital Marketing Agency

January 02, 2020   /   by  Cassie Shukitis

Wake up in the morning feeling like Don Draper, grab my (whiskey) glasses, I’m out the door; I’m gonna hit this city.

...Not really. Times have changed since Don Draper and Lucky Strike made their mark, and to be honest, that’s kind of a good thing. Goodbye intraoffice chain smoking, hello digital revolution. Life inside a digital marketing agency is something of a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma. It’s never quite the same day to day - but it’s always an exercise in creativity, practicality, and lots of keywords. Luckily, you’ve got Roger West to peel back the curtain and transport you to a world of pure imagination (and optimization and production and - you get the point).

Before things get too involved, it’s important to note that while Roger West is a digital marketing agency, we do traditional marketing too. Our CMO, Natalie Lane, isn’t the biggest fan of the “digital” qualifier. In the year 2020 - all marketing should be digitized to an extent. Now that the digital disclaimer is out of the way, let’s get into the bread and butter of life in a digital marketing agency.

The Roger West team is made up of several smaller departments that work together to deliver real results, on time and on budget, for all of our clients. We have our Digital Strategy team, Account Managers, Designers and other creatives, and Developers – all collaborating and working to ensure that every client is happy with each of their projects, whether it be a paid media campaign or the design and development of a new website.

Life inside a digital marketing agency looks different for each department. Sure, everyone shares perks like the community espresso machine, a steady influx of snacks, free manicures, cornhole, and Whiskey Wednesdays, but the day to day responsibilities and experiences are each a unique cog in a well-oiled machine. That’s enough exposition, don’t you think? It’s time for the Roger West team to tell you what goes on, in their own words.

Accounts, an Account by Cassie Shukitis, Account Coordinator

“The accounts team at Roger West is full of witty, intelligent, whiskey-loving people. The day-to-day of working on accounts is being a liaison for our clients to our other internal teams: design, development, and digital. We act as communicators and make sure everyone is happy, on both ends. I enjoy that every day I come into work and I'm working on multiple different projects at once, at Roger West boredom is not in our vocabulary. However, what I enjoy the most is the client-facing aspect of the job, we not only grow business relationships but friendships with our clients.”

Digital Strategy Through the Eyes of Sam Simon, Digital Marketing Specialist

“Every morning I start my day by checking each client’s paid search account and make sure that they are on track to stay within their budget for the end of the month. If I see anything anomalies, such as too high or too low spending, I’ll make the necessary adjustments. For our clients who get SEO services, I will crawl their website and see if there are any pressing issues and will fix anything any major problems before performing some basic SEO. Throughout the day I’ll make optimizations to paid media or search accounts and make sure everything is running smoothly across the board.”

Design, Every Day by Eddie Kranjcec, Senior Art Director

“My daily schedule involves designing for clients across multiple projects and keeping their brand consistent. I strictly adhere to brand standards across the board while designing creative. I’m lucky enough to work on several projects for a number of clients every day, including social media and blog creative for Roger West. It’s important that we approach our own agency as a client to ensure we are able to produce engaging, creative content for ourselves in addition to external clients.”

Development as Coded by Moises Vargas, Developer

Life as a developer is a mixture of technical and creative tasks. Microsite and page creation for clients allows me the opportunity to flex creative muscles, but there are still technical aspects. Clients often want to make webpage or copy changes to the sites we build, so a challenge we often face is making it accessible to the client as well. I enjoy being able to learn about the different Content Management Systems (CMS) that we use, like Sitecore, Sitefinity, and WordPress to make customization possible for our clients. On the more technical end of the spectrum, developers work on things like ADA Compliance that involve the examination of code to add beacons that make it easier for those with disabilities to navigate websites.

Working at a digital marketing agency is a beautiful amalgamation of a little bit of this, a little bit of them, a touch of collaboration, and buckets upon buckets of cheeseballs. If you want to get in on some of this sweet action and work with a team that’s as passionate about the success of your business as you are – call Roger West. We can give you engaging creative, functional websites, and an all-around good time.

Let’s talk.
