YWCA Gets Empowered with Award-Winning Event Marketing
As a non-profit organization serving communities local to Tampa Bay and beyond, the YWCA relies on support from donors and local partners. To continue successfully serving the community and raising money for programming, the YWCA hosts several organized events to generate interest and contribute to fundraising goals. The local Tampa Bay Chapter was looking for more strategic event marketing to increase attendance for their flagship Annual Meeting and their Purses & Passion event.

The YWCA is the oldest and largest multicultural women’s organization in the world. For more than a century, the YWCA has spoken out and taken action on behalf of women and girls. Its mission is to empower women, eliminate racism, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. The organization boasts more than 25 million members in 106 countries, including over 2 million people at 1,300+ locations across the United States.

From Annual Meeting to Elegant Event
YWCA hosts an annual meeting to inform donors, volunteers and partners about their ability to achieve measurable outcomes in the community. Roger West worked with the YWCA of Tampa Bay to reposition the annual event from a formal meeting to an elegant evening event. The design team created a sophisticated print invitation that was mailed to key donors and community leaders.
The team also created additional design collateral that was used during the event, including an agenda, video graphics, and the signature Annual Report. The 28-page Annual Report featured an elegant design with custom infographics for charting annual expenses, contributions, and other key financial figures – and was given to every attendee during the event.
The event rebranding was a huge success, and Roger West received a Gold ADDY Award at the local American Advertising (AA) Awards and 4th District AA Awards for its work on behalf of the non-profit.
Purses & Passion Are Always in Fashion
The Purses & Passion event is the YWCA’s single largest fundraiser and is responsible for raising more than $5 million for local programs. The Tampa Bay Chapter had a group of dedicated staff, volunteers, and community partners committing to making the event a success, and they wanted to invest in the event with a rebrand and upgraded event marketing.
Roger West performed a complete brand makeover on the event, which included:
- Logo update
- Typography update
- Welcoming color palettes
- A “Save the Date” card
- Event invitations
- Facebook graphics
- 12-page event brochure
- Homepage slider for the YWCA website
The event promotion was a big success, and registrations began rolling in immediately after invitations were sent out. In the end, YWCA exceeded fundraising goals by 30%.
